Full-Depth Reclamation (Mechanical Stabilization)

Benefits of Full-Depth Reclamation
According to the Asphalt Recycling and Reclaiming Association: Full-depth reclamation is a reclamation technique in which the full flexible pavement section and a predetermined portion of the underlying materials are uniformly crushed, pulverized, or blended, resulting in a stabilized base course. Further stabilization may be obtained through the use of available additives.

The Asphalt Zipper® recycles the pulverized asphalt with a predetermined portion of the underlying base material, usually 1-3 inches, producing a stabilized base material—all in one easy step.

The pulverized base grades very easily enabling the crown to be restored and the curb to be revealed. Excess stabilized base can simply be removed and used on other projects. You are now ready to compact.

The whole operation reduces the cost of the job up to 70% or more and increases your crew’s productivity—You’ll get more done for the same amount of budget.
There are three traditional methods of improving or stabilizing the base that are used in conjunction with full-depth reclamation/recycling (FDR). All three methods are suitable for use with the Asphalt Zipper®. These methods include: Mechanical, Chemical, and Bituminous.
